At the start of 2025, Debbie decided to develop her writing at a stage of life that creates time and opportunity to do so, and has completed a short story course with City St George’s, University of London. Debbie’s SubStack profile is growing, whilst her short story, ‘Zest for Life’, appears in the January 2026 edition of Lemon Pip magazine, hot on the heels of ‘Diabo’s Tachinomiya’ in the Thin Skin Anniversary issue published at the end of 2025. Debbie was long listed for the 2025 Globe Soup Short Story Competition and the 2026 Bournemouth Short Story Award, and is looking forward to seeing ‘Well Groomed’ published in the 3rd edition of The Bournemouth Journal in May 2026.
In the past, Debbie has successfully published teaching related articles in the Times Educational Supplement and Always Flourishing (‘Stressed by Grammar’). Other non-fiction includes prizewinning travel writing for the Navigator Paper’s Around the World in 80 Pages, and the final uplifting chapter of Ros Wilson’s It takes 5 years to become a teacher.
